The locomotives could haul trains with a total load of 1,200 tons, or 600 tons on steep slopes. The steam locomotives, known as “Jumbo” because of their tractive power, were used with great success throughout Germany and in many other European countries. The top speed was 80 km/h forward, and 50 km/h reverse. Starting in 1937, the locomotives were predominantly ordered with welded tenders, but were immediately exchanged for older riveted tenders from express locomotives.
