About the original: the Taunus 12M P4 was actually intended to be offered in America as a competitor to the Volkswagen Beetle. Eventually, management decided otherwise and the car was transferred to the German division of Ford.
With a V4 engine and front-wheel drive, the Taunus 12M was technically interesting. Between 1962 and 1966, 672,695 units were built.
