The design of the compartment cars dates back to the early days of the railway. The “pr 11” type is one of the last Prussian compartment cars with a skylight roof to be built, and at the same time the most frequently built passenger car in Germany. The three- and two-axle cars were available with and without a brakeman’s cab. Some examples are still preserved on heritage railways. Various Prussian compartment cars also ended up with the Austrian Federal Railways (BB).
