The standardized EW IV cars were delivered to the SBB starting in 1981 and, with over 500 cars, form one of the largest Swiss car fleets. The car body is made of lightweight welded steel. These cars are very popular with passengers due to their spacious interiors with face-to-face seating and their smooth running, even at high speeds. The EW IV cars, with various modernizations, are still in service throughout Switzerland today.
