Description

The KIHA58 diesel express train, which has been widely used throughout Japan since its introduction in 1961, contributed to railroad transportation in Japan during the period of high economic growth. As electrification progressed, the train, which carried passengers in rural, non-electrified areas, remained in service on non-electrified routes for a long time to come.
