From 1936, the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft put streamlined express train carriages into service. Windows and doors were completely flush with the outer wall of the carriage, the side walls were pulled down beyond the actual end of the carriage and between the bogies. The “skirt carriages” thus achieved a significant reduction in air resistance. In 1974, eight skirted dining cars were painted ocean blue and beige.
